If you live in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur or Lalitpur, you’ve probably ordered food online. There are plenty of options: Pathao, Bhojdeals, Taatomitho and more. A few days ago I ordered from Bhojdeals, for a friend’s birthday.

I paid by card, using the virtual card in the IME Pay app, though eSewa, Khalti and IME Pay wallets were also options. Fifteen minutes later they called to say the order was cancelled, because the restaurant was closed for Dashain. They told me a refund to a card or PayPal takes 3–5 days.

What surprised me was what they said about wallets: if I had paid with eSewa, Khalti or IME Pay, the refund would have gone to my Bhojdeals wallet instead. I wasn’t worried, since I paid by card. But six days later I’m still waiting: I ordered on 12 October, and it’s now 18 October.

So, as things stand in October 2021: if you order from them, pay by card. If an order is cancelled for any reason, wallet payments are refunded to your Bhojdeals wallet as credit, which you can only spend on a later order or send to another user, not withdraw. Their website has terms and conditions and a privacy policy, but no refund policy, which a site like this really needs.
